Datsun Sunny B310 at Ueno Park, Tokyo | Photo Print
I was walking from Yushima, where the restaurants and bars are, toward Shinobazu Pond, waiting at the crossing outside Ueno Park. Then this rolled up: a late-1970s Nissan Sunny B310 sedan, silver, lowered, sitting on deep-dish Watanabe-style wheels, fender mirrors still on, and a Tokyo taxi sliding past behind it. You can see the pond through the trees.
I was born in the mid-70s and grew up around cars like this one. Seeing one still on the road, this well kept, in my own neighborhood after seven years of walking these streets, made the day. Sold abroad as the Datsun 210 and 120Y, the B310 is the everyday JDM classic of its era, and this one is loved in the kyusha, shakotan way: low, clean, and driven.
